Check your financial model

Save your workbook in Excel first, then choose the saved XLSX file. The checker reads saved formulas and values; it does not recalculate Excel.

Originals are processed temporarily and are not kept in your report history. Reports and metadata expire after 30 days.

Upload a saved, unencrypted XLSX up to 10 MiB. Download the complete PDF while your current browser session remains valid.

What the checker looks for

Practical checks for financial spreadsheets

Broken references

Find saved #REF! tokens in supported formulas and references to local worksheets that are provably missing. These can interrupt forecast schedules and links between financial statements.

Saved Excel errors

Count division by zero (#DIV/0!), unavailable values (#N/A), invalid references (#REF!), invalid values (#VALUE!), unrecognized names (#NAME?), invalid numbers (#NUM!) and invalid range intersections (#NULL!) separately.

Links to other workbooks

Identify supported formula links and external workbook metadata. An external dependency can be intentional; review whether the source file is available and up to date.

Numbers inside formulas

Flag supported formulas containing embedded numeric assumptions, such as a revenue cell multiplied by a fixed growth rate. These are review items, with no score penalty; the number may be appropriate.

Broken defined names

Identify saved defined-name text containing a broken reference or a supported absolute reference to a missing local worksheet. A name may be unused or intentional; review it in Excel's Name Manager. This check has no score penalty.

Saved calculation mode

Highlight files saved with manual calculation mode. Check the current calculation options in Excel; the saved setting alone does not show whether results are up to date and has no score penalty.

The teaching workbook contains deliberately planted errors and review items. Its example PDF uses the same report renderer as a real analysis. It contains no customer data.

Use it before sharing a financial model

Review budgeting and forecasting workbooks, DCF and valuation models, management reports and supporting financial schedules before sending them to a colleague, investor or client. Start with the PDF locations, open those cells in Excel and confirm the intended formulas and source data.

A separate financial review is still essential. This tool does not check whether a balance sheet balances, cash-flow statements reconcile, financial statements are consistent, assumptions are reasonable, valuations are sound or circular references exist. Missing saved results and unsupported formula syntax are coverage limitations, not proof that a model passed.

Frequently asked questions

About your financial workbook check

What financial files can I check?

Use an XLSX workbook containing a financial model, forecast, budget, valuation, financial report or related schedule. CSV, XLS, XLSM, PDF statements and password-protected files are not supported. The maximum upload is 10 MiB.

Does the tool recalculate my financial model?

No. It inspects supported formulas and values saved in the XLSX file. Save the workbook in Excel after calculation if you want current saved values checked. Missing saved results are not classified as errors or passes.

What does the score mean?

The score is a provisional, deterministic summary of the supported spreadsheet checks. Confirmed broken references and saved calculation errors reduce it; numbers embedded in formulas are review items without a penalty. A score of 100 does not prove financial correctness.

What is included in the PDF?

The PDF starts with the score and a table of finding types and counts. It lists every captured finding, including worksheet, cell and saved formula when available, or the defined name, scope, definition or workbook setting for workbook-level checks. Complete reports are free, with no registration. If a report cannot fit within the supported size, the checker refuses it rather than silently dropping findings.

Are external links and numbers in formulas always mistakes?

No. A model can intentionally use another workbook or a fixed number. These findings highlight dependencies and assumptions for a human to review. Do not delete a valid link or assumption solely because it appears in the report.

Does it check that the balance sheet balances?

No. Balance-sheet balancing, statement reconciliation, financial assumption checks, circular references and model logic need a separate financial review. This checker focuses on supported spreadsheet evidence.

Can I return to my report later?

The current browser session can open its saved summary and complete PDF until session or report expiry. Reports and metadata expire after 30 days. Download your PDF promptly.

What happens to my original workbook?

The original is processed temporarily and is not retained as report history. Stored reports contain workbook-derived details such as worksheet names, cells and formula excerpts. Customer content is not used for training. The hosting website should explain its applicable privacy and contact information.
