Laundromat Plan: Is Another Dryer Worth Its Purchase Cash?
Choose laundry equipment using the binding machine group and the actual additional paid cycles.
On this page

Buy the machine that solves the paid-cycle bottleneck, if its additional contribution justifies the cash. A busy washer bank does not prove another washer is the right investment when dryers constrain the service.
Build contribution by machine type
Original assumptions, $ per week. Small washers complete 120 cycles at $8 with $3 variable cost. Large washers complete 80 at $12 with $5 variable cost. Dryers sell at $4 with $1 variable cost. Usable washer capacity is 220 for the chosen mix; dryers can complete 140 after downtime. Standing operating commitments are $1,000.
Washers contribute $1,160. At 140 paid dryer cycles, drying adds $420 and the selected weekly result is $580. Assume demand for 160 dryer cycles, leaving twenty unserved; the existing 140-cycle ceiling cannot be ignored in a revenue forecast.
Twenty extra cycles can mean only $40 a week
In a separate investment illustration, another dryer costs $4,000 upfront and adds $20 weekly maintenance/standing cost. It can serve the twenty otherwise lost cycles without another staffing step. Energy and other selected cycle costs remain inside $1 per dryer cycle.
| Extra paid cycles | 20 | 10 |
|---|---|---|
| Cycle contribution at $3 | 60 | 30 |
| Added weekly commitment | 20 | 20 |
| Net weekly increment | 40 | 10 |
| Simple weeks to match $4,000 | 100 | 400 |
These constant, undiscounted ratios are not an equipment investment forecast. Verify demand throughout the calendar, installation disruption, repair responsibility, useful life and actual utility rates. An extra machine cannot create paid use in empty periods.
Daily receipts still owe later bills
Schedule utilities, repairs, rent, equipment purchase and debt payments independently. A utility invoice on day 14 is not free contribution on earlier collection days. Use actual cycle/payment reports and outage records to compare replacement with expansion. The selected Laundromat Financial Model connects separate service-stream volumes, prices and costs in the broader forecast.
