T-Mobile: Customer Measures, Device Cash and Network Investment

T-Mobile FY2025 adjusted FCF was $17.995 billion. Receivable-sale classification and the partial-year acquisition qualify comparisons of cash and customers.

T-Mobile DCF Analysis

T-Mobile's FY2025 operating cash was $27.950 billion and cash property/equipment purchases were $9.955 billion, producing reported adjusted free cash flow of $17.995 billion. The annual comparison also contains a receivable-sale classification change and a partial-year acquisition. Neither customer additions nor the cash total alone measures organic improvement.

Q2 2026 covers 2026-04-01 through 2026-06-30 and was released 2026-07-23. Revenue was $22,791 million in this quarter. Source: official Q2 2026 results.

The next Q3 release is after the cutoff. Service revenue, customer accounts and connections have different denominators; acquisition-related cash and the network payment calendar cannot be inferred from a subscriber-growth percentage.

A dated service and cash baseline

The February 11, 2026 FY2025 earnings release supplies the consolidated $-million figures below for the year ended December 31, 2025. These selected release figures are unaudited and are a historical starting point.

T-Mobile FY2025: selected consolidated reported facts, year ended December 31, 2025
Reported measure$ millions
Total revenue88,309
Service revenue71,306
Net income10,992
Operating cash flow27,950
Cash purchases of property and equipment including capitalized interest9,955

Derived operating cash after those property/equipment purchases is 27,950 - 9,955 = 17,995 million, matching FY2025 reported adjusted free cash flow. Operating cash exceeds net income by 16,958 million. The reconciliation still needs non-cash charges and working capital; it cannot be explained by new-customer totals alone.

Keep accounts and customers distinct

The FY2025 Form 10-K, Performance Measures, defines postpaid average revenue per account using average postpaid accounts and a monthly period, while average revenue per user uses customers. Using an account-based revenue measure with a connection count would combine incompatible denominators.

Prepare opening accounts, organic additions, acquired accounts and losses, then the connections and services within each account. Keep postpaid phone, other postpaid and prepaid populations separate where the issuer does. A case that adds lower-revenue connected devices can change the customer count without the same change in average revenue per account.

Trace device recognition and collection

Use a separate equipment schedule for sales, installments, promotional credits and collection losses. A handset can be delivered before the customer has paid for it, while the related wireless service is earned over later months. The cash needed to finance that interval belongs in the forecast even when the service margin appears attractive.

The annual filing records a change effective November 1, 2024 that moved specified receivable-sale proceeds from investing to operating cash flow, without changing adjusted free cash flow. Reconcile that presentation change before interpreting a year-over-year operating-cash increase as better customer payment behavior. Cash-flow classification and underlying collection economics are different questions.

Carry the acquired business on its actual timetable

Note 2 records the UScellular wireless-business acquisition on August 1, 2025. The annual results therefore include only the post-acquisition portion of that business. The filing separately discusses joint-venture investments for fiber operations; their economics should not automatically be treated as wholly owned network cash.

Prepare acquisition-date customer balances, operating contributions, integration cash and funding separately from organic growth. A full-year contribution assumed for the next period needs a documented bridge, not an extension of the prior year’s net-additions figure. Avoid calling a change in the opening customer base a new in-period sale.

Test the cost of winning and serving customers

A useful assumed scenario increases upgrades and promotional support while holding service pricing steady. Another slows collection of installments with the same customer count. Trace equipment funding, service receipts and network commitments in each case so the cash constraint remains visible.

What customers pay for and what changes the economics

T-Mobile earns postpaid, prepaid and wholesale wireless-service revenue, sells devices and accessories and provides broadband. Its FY2025 filing describes fixed-wireless broadband using excess capacity on the mobile network, while fiber partnerships follow a different ownership and wholesale-access model. Device installments and promotions connect equipment sales to later collections. Additional connections therefore do not all earn the same service revenue or use the same network resources. (FY2025 source.)

Analysis: Test a broadband addition against the capacity available at its location, not only a national subscriber target. Monetizing spare radio capacity can add contribution, but the case changes if extra traffic requires more network investment or displaces valuable mobile capacity. A fiber customer also incurs wholesale-access economics even when the customer relationship is owned by T-Mobile.

Operating signals to carry into the forecast

Watch these signals on a consistent period and definition. Undisclosed measures remain questions to investigate, rather than supplied KPI data.

  • Organic postpaid accounts and churn: separate acquisitions and use the existing ARPA denominator.
  • Service revenue per account versus promotional and equipment funding: test retained lifetime economics.
  • Broadband growth and network capacity: distinguish fixed-wireless utilization from fiber access cost.
  • Network, spectrum and integration cash: compare the customer growth case with the funding needed to serve it.

SWOT and the forecast consequence

SWOT classifications and forecast consequences are analytical judgments; evidence uses the dated sources cited below.

AssessmentEvidenceConditional forecast consequence
StrengthMobile and broadband services can use a shared wireless network. (FY2025 source.)Spare capacity can support incremental contribution, subject to local load and customer-service economics.
WeaknessDevice installments and offers consume funding before all customer receipts arrive. (FY2025 source.)A customer-win case needs promotion, collection and credit-loss assumptions rather than net additions alone.
OpportunityFixed-wireless and fiber offers broaden the broadband relationship. (FY2025 source.)Model each on its actual capacity and wholesale-cost basis; they are not interchangeable capital-light additions.
ThreatWireless and broadband face competing network, cable, fiber and satellite offers. (FY2025 source.)Stress churn, acquisition cost and price together; a stable customer count can require greater spending.

Valuation implication: Compare organic account expansion at stable acquisition cost with a promotion-heavy case and a capacity-constrained broadband case. Keep the fiber venture and spectrum claims explicit. Higher service revenue creates value only after the equipment, network and retention cash needed to earn it.

Define spectrum, finance leases, joint-venture investment and integration spending before adopting the issuer’s cash label for a DCF. Organize a compatible customer and cash case in the company forecast, then use the DCF calculator with explicit tax, financing and share-count assumptions. The selected totals do not establish a current share value.
