Salesforce: Contracted Revenue, Collections and Dilution
Salesforce's FY2026 revenue rose 9.6% to $41.525 billion. Operating cash of $14.996 billion less $594 million of capex left a derived $14.402 billion, up 15.8%. Latest released reporting at October 25, 2026
Q2 FY2027 covers 2026-05-01 through 2026-07-31 and was released 2026-08-26. Revenue was $11,345 million in this quarter. Source: official Q2 FY2027 results.
The later quarter includes a different Informatica contribution from the partial annual consolidation. Remaining performance obligations are future revenue, while advance billing, commissions and equity compensation affect cash and per-share value through different bridges.

Renewals, billing and acquired data services have different clocks
Salesforce supplies customer-management software used for sales, service, marketing and commerce. A subscription revenue period does not determine when the customer pays or when the selling commission was funded.
Complete annual operating and cash basis
The complete annual comparison uses the FY2026 annual filing, filed 2026-03-02. Periods ended 2025-01-31 and 2026-01-31; amounts are $ millions. Filing date, fiscal-year label and period end are separate dates.
| Measure | FY2025 | FY2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue, reported | 37,895 | 41,525 |
| Operating income, reported | 7,205 | 8,331 |
| Operating cash flow, reported | 13,092 | 14,996 |
| Property purchases / capex, cash outflow | 658 | 594 |
| Operating cash less displayed capex, derived | 12,434 | 14,402 |
The full year ended January 31, 2026. Its $41,525 million revenue includes $399 million from Informatica following the November 2025 closing, so FY2026 is not a full-year combined run rate. FY2025 remains a pre-acquisition comparative, rather than the latest baseline.
The annual cash remainder increased $1,968 million: operating cash rose $1,904 million and the property deduction declined $64 million. The subtraction is 14,996 - 594 = $14,402 million. A positive cash bridge still requires a consistent treatment of commissions, employee grants and the acquired business.
The subsequent Q2 FY2027 includes $456 million of Informatica revenue and $66.3 billion of total remaining performance obligations. The latter is a future-revenue indicator, not a receivable or bank balance. A multiyear agreement paid annually has different cash timing from the same contract prepaid.
Reconcile advance cash and selling investment
The filing separates unearned revenue, receivables, contract-acquisition costs and their amortization. Use those lines to explain why the cash result differs from earnings. Commission payments can occur before the related expense is recognized, so an earnings margin alone is not a complete measure of the cash required to win additional subscriptions.
Keep three forecasting choices separate: the cost to acquire a contract, how long that cost is expensed and when the customer pays. Extending the amortization period may change reported profit without changing the commission payment already made. Faster collections may support cash in one year without establishing a permanent improvement in operating efficiency.
Choose a stock-compensation treatment once
Stock compensation is an expense in the earnings baseline and a non-cash add-back in the operating-cash reconciliation. For valuation, document whether future grants are represented through an economic cash-equivalent cost, dilution, or another consistent method. A forecast that removes the expense and assumes a fixed share count needs an explicit justification.
Share repurchases also need a clear role. They use financing cash and may offset issued shares, but they do not retroactively turn the compensation add-back into operating revenue. Avoid deducting the same expected compensation cost and then assuming an additional buyback solely to neutralize the same grants without explaining the overlap.
Test a renewal and billing change
One useful assumed downside holds customer service delivery steady while renewals move to shorter commitments or later payment. Track contracted revenue, operating cash and funding separately. Then test grant dilution with repurchases held constant; this isolates the per-share consequence from the operating case.
What customers pay for and what changes the economics
Salesforce supplies sales, service, marketing and commerce applications together with integration, analytics and collaboration capabilities. The FY2026 report describes Agentforce embedded in workflows, MuleSoft integration and Tableau analytics. Customers pay for business software and related capabilities; a connected data or agent feature is not itself evidence of a separate, fully incremental revenue stream. The existing subscription and acquired-data-services bridge remains the financial boundary. (FY2026 source.)
Analysis: Test whether AI expands paid work performed, preserves retention or replaces a customer's existing licensed activity. Fewer manual tasks can improve customer value while changing the seat requirement. A credible monetization case therefore needs pricing units, adoption and delivery costs stated together. Integration and data preparation can also delay useful deployment after a contract is signed.
Operating signals to carry into the forecast
Watch these signals on a consistent period and definition. Undisclosed measures remain questions to investigate, rather than supplied KPI data.
- Subscription growth and renewal evidence: separate existing-customer expansion from acquired contribution.
- Paid agent/data adoption: distinguish availability, pilot activity and production monetization.
- RPO/current conversion and billing: use contract recognition and collection schedules rather than the headline stock.
- Operating contribution after computing, commissions and support: retain the cost of winning and delivering the expanded workflow.
SWOT and the forecast consequence
SWOT classifications and forecast consequences are analytical judgments; evidence uses the dated sources cited below.
| Assessment | Evidence | Conditional forecast consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | Applications, integration and analytics address connected customer workflows. (FY2026 source.) | Cross-selling can increase paid value if customers adopt it; avoid treating a bundle's components as independent new sales. |
| Weakness | Useful agent deployment depends on connected data, permissions and working processes. (FY2026 source.) | A rollout delay can postpone monetization while implementation and service costs continue. |
| Opportunity | Agentforce can automate tasks within sales, service, marketing and commerce. (FY2026 source.) | An upside needs net paid expansion after any change in seat demand and the cost of serving agents. |
| Threat | A customer can seek efficiency from automation rather than simply adding licenses. (FY2026 source.) | Stress cannibalization or changed pricing units; do not project both unchanged seat economics and unlimited agent revenue. |
Valuation implication: Compare paid workflow expansion with a case where automation improves customer productivity but produces limited net revenue uplift. Require contribution after computing and selling costs, then apply a consistent dilution treatment. RPO growth and a low physical-capex line alone do not establish a sustainable cash premium.
Prepare the acquired-business bridge before using a current Salesforce starting point: acquisition-date scope, financing, integration cash and updated share counts. Organize assumptions in the company forecast and discount only a consistently defined series in the DCF calculator. The dated facts here support the method and do not supply a current valuation.
