NVIDIA: Data Center Growth, Margins and Cash

NVIDIA FY2026 revenue rose 65.5%, with Data Center at 89.7% of sales. Compare margin pressure, operating cash and the scope of investment payments.

NVIDIA DCF Analysis

NVIDIA's FY2026 revenue increased 65.5% to $215.9 billion, with Data Center representing 89.7% of sales. Operating cash grew 60.3% to $102.7 billion. The scale of growth was substantial, but gross margin fell from 75.0% to 71.1%, making product mix and supply-related costs central to the earnings outlook.

Q2 FY2027 covers 2026-04-27 through 2026-07-26 and was released 2026-08-26. Revenue was $96,221 million in this quarter. Source: official Q2 FY2027 results.

The later quarter reports a recovery in gross margin relative to the complete FY2026 result. A quarterly recovery does not rewrite the full-year margin, and supply commitments still need a payment and inventory bridge before a cash forecast is set.

The figures come from NVIDIA's FY2026 Form 10-K. FY2026 ended January 25, 2026; FY2025 ended January 26, 2025. Amounts below are $ millions and describe historical results.

Data Center added $78,551 million of the group's $85,441 million revenue increase, or 91.9%. This concentrates the outlook in one market even though products and customer types within it differ. These market disclosures are an alternative to the Compute & Networking and Graphics segment view, not additional sales.

The filing links gross-margin pressure to the transition toward Blackwell data-center solutions and a $4.5 billion H20 inventory and purchase-obligation charge. The earnings implication is that revenue expansion and margin preservation are separate parts of the case: more sales do not guarantee the same profit percentage.

Strong operating cash still funds several kinds of investment

Operating cash and selected investment, $ millions

Operating cash64,089102,718
Purchases related to property, equipment and intangible assets, outflow3,2366,042
Operating cash less those purchases, derived60,85396,676

The narrow cash-after-investment calculation is 102,718 - 6,042 = $96,676 million. It precedes other investing and financing payments, including the separately disclosed $13,000 million Groq payment. It is not asserted as an issuer-defined free-cash-flow measure or a completed unlevered cash forecast.

Growth, margins and supply exposure shape the DCF

For a hypothetical sensitivity, apply a 5-percentage-point gross-margin reduction to unchanged FY2026 revenue. The gross-profit effect is 215,938 × 5% = $10,796.9 million before operating costs and tax. This arithmetic illustrates the importance of margin assumptions; it is not a forecast of an additional charge or NVIDIA's future margin.

A valuation case also needs customer-collection, inventory and supplier-payment assumptions. Those cash timings can change before a sales slowdown becomes visible in earnings. Discount assumptions belong in a separate sensitivity: illustrative WACC of 10% or 12% and perpetual growth of 2% or 3% are assumed inputs, not measured company facts. An enterprise cash forecast must include all relevant reinvestment before discounting.

What customers pay for and what changes the economics

NVIDIA supplies accelerated-computing platforms that combine processors, networking, systems and software. The FY2026 filing describes CUDA and domain-specific libraries, frameworks and developer tools as part of that stack. Its platforms reach customers through server makers and cloud providers as well as NVIDIA systems. The Data Center market figures above therefore contain several product and customer mechanisms, rather than one interchangeable GPU sale. (FY2026 source.)

Analysis: A shipped accelerator produces durable demand only if the customer can deploy it and earn useful workload output. Power, networking and software readiness can alter that timetable even when chips are available. A broader system sale may capture more revenue per installation while changing purchased-component cost and deployment responsibility. Test customer utilization and platform economics before extending the latest shipment growth indefinitely.

Operating signals to carry into the forecast

Watch these signals on a consistent period and definition. Undisclosed measures remain questions to investigate, rather than supplied KPI data.

  • Compute versus networking/system mix where disclosed: distinguish component growth from larger system scope.
  • Customer deployment and repeat demand: seek evidence beyond initial orders or delivered hardware.
  • Gross margin and product-transition costs: retain charge and generation-mix effects separately.
  • Inventory, supplier commitments and collections: test whether the growth case remains fundable if deployment slows.

SWOT and the forecast consequence

SWOT classifications and forecast consequences are analytical judgments; evidence uses the dated sources cited below.

AssessmentEvidenceConditional forecast consequence
StrengthThe platform combines hardware with CUDA and extensive software tools. (FY2026 source.)A working developer ecosystem can support adoption, but ongoing software investment belongs in the cost case.
WeaknessRevenue is highly concentrated in the Data Center market shown above. (FY2026 source.)A common customer-investment slowdown can dominate the group even when smaller markets improve.
OpportunityA full stack can address more of an accelerated-computing deployment. (FY2026 source.)An upside needs incremental customer value after networking, component and system-delivery costs.
ThreatThe existing annual result includes product-transition and export-related inventory/obligation effects. (FY2026 source.)Stress usable demand and committed supply together; a revenue delay may create inventory costs before lost profit is visible.

Valuation implication: Compare sustained productive deployments with a slower customer-utilization case and unchanged near-term supply commitments. Software adoption can support demand, but does not establish an unlimited margin or growth rate. The narrow cash subtotal above still precedes other investment and financing claims.

The tables are selected historical inputs, not a live valuation or share-price target. This analysis does not include a completed forecast or verified workbook calculations.
