Comcast: Connectivity, Content and the Reinvestment Bridge
Comcast FY2025 cash after the three displayed investment deductions was $19.224 billion. Preserve software/content funding and the later portfolio boundary.
Comcast's FY2025 operating cash was $33.643 billion. After property capex, intangible-asset payments and the separately shown Beijing construction payment, the derived remainder was $19.224 billion. Subtracting only physical capex would leave a higher $21.893 billion and omit those other investment payments; the baseline also predates the completed Versant separation.

Q3 2026 covers 2026-07-01 through 2026-09-30 and was released 2026-10-22. Revenue was $29,298 million in this quarter. Source: official Q3 2026 results.
The newer quarter's reported revenue decline and pro-forma growth after Versant use different comparison populations. Gross property investment, intangible spending and completed versus proposed portfolio changes remain separate funding questions.

Connectivity subscriptions and entertainment projects use different assets
The cited FY2025 report combines connectivity services for residential and business customers with media, studios and theme parks. This is a portfolio of network-service relationships and entertainment activities, not one uniform source of customer demand.
The $2,658 million intangible-asset payment below is substantial beside the $11,750 million physical-capex line. Network assets, software and rights can support services on different timetables, so a physical-capex-only cash view leaves out part of this portfolio's funding. The later separation and disposals must also be reflected before the older group result is carried into a new operating case.
Start with the reported FY2025 group
The FY2025 Form 10-K, filed February 3, 2026, provides these consolidated $-million figures for the year ended December 31, 2025. Net income is the consolidated amount used in the cash-flow reconciliation, before shareholder attribution.
| Reported measure | $ millions |
|---|---|
| Revenue | 123,707 |
| Consolidated net income | 19,660 |
| Operating cash flow | 33,643 |
| Capital expenditures, cash outflow | 11,750 |
| Cash paid for intangible assets | 2,658 |
| Construction of Universal Beijing Resort, cash outflow | 11 |
Operating cash less the three displayed investment deductions is 33,643 - 11,750 - 2,658 - 11 = 19,224 million. This is a derived subtotal before acquisitions, other investment activity and financing distributions. Subtracting only the capital-expenditure row would leave 21,893 million and omit the separately presented investment payments.
Separate maintenance from an assumed growth program
For connectivity, prepare network capacity, customer equipment, line extensions and software payments on compatible schedules. For a park or studio project, prepare the construction or production commitment and the period when it can begin earning revenue. A capital-spending reduction can reflect project completion, delayed work or a smaller future program; the amount alone does not identify the reason.
If you divide future investment into maintenance and growth, label that division as an analytical assumption and explain the assets it covers. Depreciation is not automatically the cash cost of maintaining service quality. A terminal case needs enough reinvestment to support its own customer, capacity and attraction assumptions.
Bridge earnings to cash before normalizing it
Operating cash exceeds consolidated net income by 13,983 million in the selected totals. Reconcile non-cash depreciation, investment gains, taxes and working capital before interpreting the gap as recurring operating strength. A gain on an investment sale and the cash settlement of that sale can appear in different lines or periods.
Keep content payments separate from the amortization or expense recognized in earnings. When starting from reported operating cash, check which production payments are already included before deducting them again. For valuation, document how acquisitions, tax, interest and non-controlling interests enter the cash available to the chosen investors.
Completed transactions and a proposed separation
The Q2 2026 Form 10-Q, signed July 23, 2026, records the completed Versant separation on January 2, 2026 and sale of Sky operations in Germany on May 31, 2026. It also describes an NBCUniversal/Sky spin-off proposed for mid-2027, subject to conditions; that proposed transaction is not reflected as completed in those financial statements.
Use a bridge for the removed businesses, retained operations, stranded costs and financing rather than subtracting a headline revenue figure from the old group. The filing’s updated segment presentation also requires care when comparing a segment trend with consolidated results that included different businesses in the comparative period.
Test the business before the financing outcome
A useful assumed downside reduces connectivity customer economics while keeping network commitments due. Another delays the earnings contribution from a new attraction while its payment schedule is unchanged. Keep a proposed separation case distinct from those operating scenarios so transaction assumptions do not conceal the underlying investment requirement.
What customers pay for and what changes the economics
In the FY2025 portfolio, residential customers paid for broadband, wireless, video and voice, often in discounted bundles; business customers bought connectivity services. Media, Studios and Theme Parks earned entertainment revenue through different activities. Residential and business connectivity shared infrastructure, while intersegment content and distribution transactions required elimination. Use this annual business map with the later transaction boundary above, rather than treating it as an unchanged current segment structure. (FY2025 source.)
Analysis: A broadband price increase can lift revenue per remaining customer while the customer base contracts. Test customer locations and retained contribution together before describing that result as healthy demand. A wireless bundle may improve retention, but its incremental service and acquisition costs belong in the same case. For entertainment, internal content licensing cannot create additional group revenue merely by moving profit between segments.
Operating signals to carry into the forecast
Watch these signals on a consistent period and definition. Undisclosed measures remain questions to investigate, rather than supplied KPI data.
- Broadband customer changes and revenue per relationship: separate price from retention.
- Wireless attachment and acquisition economics: assess contribution after the cost of the offer.
- Business connectivity growth: distinguish additional customers from larger contracts or mix.
- Retained entertainment contribution and project readiness: use the post-transaction perimeter and include content/property cash.
SWOT and the forecast consequence
SWOT classifications and forecast consequences are analytical judgments; evidence uses the dated sources cited below.
| Assessment | Evidence | Conditional forecast consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | Residential and business connectivity share network infrastructure. (FY2025 source.) | Additional profitable activity may spread network costs, but include the capacity and support needed to serve it. |
| Weakness | FY2025 reporting identifies an increasingly competitive connectivity environment. (FY2025 source.) | Stress customer retention and promotional expense together rather than assuming uninterrupted pricing gains. |
| Opportunity | Connectivity services can be sold individually or as bundles. (FY2025 source.) | A retention benefit can support value if incremental wireless or bundle cost is lower than the preserved contribution. |
| Threat | The annual portfolio includes internal distribution and content licensing. (FY2025 source.) | A segment growth case can double count internal revenue; reconcile eliminations and retained businesses before valuing the group. |
Valuation implication: Compare stable contribution per customer with a case where higher yield fails to offset customer losses. Model new entertainment assets on their own investment timetable. A portfolio transaction should change operating scope, stranded costs and financing together; it does not by itself improve underlying customer economics.
Prepare current segment definitions, investment commitments, software/content cash and the retained-business/debt bridge. Use the company forecast for explicit assumptions and the DCF calculator for a consistently defined series. The historical subtotal here is not a forecast of a future Comcast or NBCUniversal equity value.
